UofL users update their passwords in our Identity Management System.
For students, faculty and staff, on all campuses, we recommend our Eduroam wi-fi (sign in with your UofL username and password). ULsecure is another option for encrypted connectivity. ULvisitor is for open, short-term use only.
Yes, the ITS HelpDesk is available and has a wide variety of contact methods, including 1:1 assistance. UL2FCTR / Duo is the application that UofL uses for two-factor authentication or second verification of identity for extra security of online accounts. UL2FCTR / Duo requires enrollment and a manner of submitting a verification code to allow access to most UofL systems for employees.

Passwords, UserID and Login
UofL users update their passwords in our Identity Management System.
UofL users have one password for all systems tied to their userID. You can update a password in our Identity Management System.
All UofL users have a system generated ID for university accounts. This ID is a combination of name and random number. You can look up your primary userID by your employee or student number.

Conditional access is Microsoft's tool for system authentication based on a combination of a user's information, device and sign-in with a recognized location. If needed, a second verification of identity such as UL2FCTR/Duo is required.
UofL Email
Prior to accessing your UofL email, you will need to activate your account in our Identity Management System.
Outlook is the UofL's preferred email system for employees and students. With UofL’s Office365, you can either use a web-based version or their downloadable apps. See Microsoft’s training for more information. You can download Office365 products on up to 5 devices.
Everyone at UofL gets two email addresses – userID@louisville.edu is the main email (also called system email address), and firstname.lastname@louisville.edu is an alias of the main account (also called the preferred nickname address). Email at either address end up in the same system account. You can change your preferred nickname address if it is available.
Follow these steps to change your preferred email address: ULink Outside > Resources > Email Addresses > Sign-in Student System> Chosen Nickname > Edit > Save

Students, upon graduation and once our Student System recognizes you as a UofL alum, are eligible to set up permanent email forwarding. Emails sent to your university account will be forwarded to the personal email account of your choosing. To set up email forwarding, go to our Identity Management system under My Profile > My Availability > Email for Life > switch option to Yes > Enter forwarding email address > re-enter forwarding email address > Save. If you do not see the option as listed, please be patient for matriculation data to be acknowledged.

Accounts

First time users activate accounts in our Identity Management system. In this system, you can change your password, reset a forgotten password or update your profile. Users can also request account such as CardBox or VPN and manage both service and sponsored accounts.
The access for most UofL systems is through ULink using your userID and password.

With your Office 365 account, UofL users get 50GB of OneDrive storage free.
Using Office 365, you can store files on OneDrive and share links via Teams and Outlook. Additionally, you can request a CardBox account for unlimited collaboration and online storage.

Network and VPN
ITS supports wireless access throughout the Belknap, HSC and Shelby campuses. However, housing specific options for Wi-Fi are not controlled by ITS.

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) uses encrypted protocols to provide secure connectivity over the internet. UofL's Global Protect VPN allows a registered user to connect to protected university resources and systems. Our Eduroam Wi-Fi is a unique, secure wireless service that allows the UofL community best connectivity on all our campuses plus other participating universities and institutions.
Both are secure Wi-Fi options for those that can sign-in with their UofL username and password. Eduroam offers the most secure encryption and authentication standards for seamless wireless on all campuses.

Phones and Webex
Webex is the University of Louisville's telephone service. The Webex application can be used on a desktop, laptop, tablet or cellular device to make and recieve phone calls using your UofL phone number.
If an existing number and/or desk set is available through your department or unit, or if you need a new number or phone, contact our team.

E911 service allows you to make emergency calls using your VoIP or Webex phone service. Emergency Enhanced 911 (E911) is for digital devices not within a fixed location. For E911, the caller's number (set by ITS) and registered address information (set by the user) are automatically provided to the emergency operator. You must keep the address of your device updated each time you change your location.

We provide and maintain the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) digital telephone services for the UofL community. Our service teams can consult about VoIP services and setup your network connection through a work order. There are several options of phone models available depending on your needs. A list of fiscal year 2023-2024 pricing is available in our Knowledge Base. Additionally, while ITS does not provide cellular services, the university has arranged contracts with the three major providers for discounts for those affiliated with UofL.

Enterprise Systems
Our self-service ticketing catalog allows the UofL community to submit a ticket or log an issue about a specific enterprise system. To inquire about adding an enterprise software or system, modifying an existing system or requesting development, contact us.
For the OnBase system, access is limited to those with authorization. Please contact your UBM or finance director for a direct link to the OnBase forms required for your department or unit. If you need assistance, please submit a service ticket.
Conditional access is Microsoft's tool for system authentication, combining user information, device and sign-in information with a recognized location. If you are traveling, a second verification of identity, such as UL2FCTR / Duo, will be required. You might also need a Global Protect VPN to connect to protected university resources and systems.
