UofL Email – Outlook

Microsoft Office 365 Outlook is UofL’s preferred email system for employees and students. With 50 GB of inbox storage, increased security and spam filtering, Outlook also provides better integration with other Office 365 collaboration and productivity tools. 

Outlook is the central hub for managing emails, calendars, contacts and tasks. It enables users to schedule meetings, set reminders and organize communications efficiently. With integrated features like focused inbox and calendar sharing, it streamlines collaboration and time management. Outlook also supports mobile access, ensuring users stay connected across devices.

New Users

Prior to accessing your email, you will need to Activate your Account in our identity management portal. Once activated, you can also use this portal (identity.louisville.edu) to manage your account and others. See our knowledge base article for more info such as passwords and mobile device set-up. 

Teams

Microsoft Office 365 Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that supports chat, video conferencing, file sharing and app integration. It allows teams to create dedicated channels for projects, departments or topics, enhancing focus and organization. Real-time collaboration on documents and seamless meeting scheduling make it ideal for remote and hybrid work environments. 

OneDrive

OneDrive provides secure cloud storage for personal and shared files, accessible from any device. It supports automatic syncing and version control, making it easy to recover or track changes. Users can share files with internal or external collaborators while maintaining control over permissions. OneDrive also integrates with Office apps for real-time co-authoring and editing.

SharePoint

SharePoint is a web-based platform for document management, intranet sites and team collaboration. It enables departments or units to build sites for specific projects, centralizing resources and workflows. With robust permission controls and metadata tagging, it enhances content discoverability and governance. SharePoint also supports integration with Teams and OneDrive.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint

These are the foundational productivity tools in Office 365: Word for document creation, Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for presentations. Word supports rich formatting, collaboration and templates for professional documents. Excel offers powerful functions, charts and pivot tables for financial modeling and reporting. PowerPoint enables dynamic storytelling with animations, transitions and embedded media, ideal for teaching and learning.
