Security Services

Protection Certificate

We offer TLS certificates at no cost to the UofL community. TLS certificates are part of the critical function of protecting information in-transit (information transferred between you the customer and a server or application you are interacting with). TLS certificates allow the encryption of the communication ensuring that users can trust and safely browse the service. If your application has login features, we require that you encrypt the application with a TLS certificate.

Please submit a request to get started on a TLS certificate.

Certificates have a 365-day expiration cycle. If you are requesting this service, it is important to keep up with notification emails and the Certificate Authority.

Firewall Services

We protect the university’s network by using firewalls to block unauthorized access. If you have a need for new firewall rules or changes to existing firewall rules, you are in the right place. There are 3 options available:

Request exceptions to current firewall policies

Use our form to get started. All exceptions will be carefully reviewed before granting approval. While exceptions are sometimes necessary, their widespread use degrades security for the entire campus community.

Custom firewall requests

For systems needing additional protection, units can submit a custom firewall request at an additional cost.

We invite you to learn more about pricing and how rule requests are carefully reviewed before any approval in order to maintain university-wide security.

Remove firewall exception rule

When you are decommissioning a system, or no longer need the current firewall rules, please submit this form to inform us of the change. Services and applications no longer needed often requires a review of inbound and outbound connections that are being used in the system.

We highly encourage you to submit the request to remove unnecessary firewall rules. With this request, we can check our records and work with you to apply the needed changes.

Vulnerability Management

ITS Enterprise Security is in charge of the vulnerability management program for the enterprise level systems serving various colleges, departments and units on all campuses.

Vulnerabilities steam from misconfiguration, insecure coding practices, faulty software, and inconsistently applying software updates to a device or system. A systematic approach addressing problems must be used to achieve accountability, reporting and resolution.

To take advantage of this program, please fill out our form to get started so that you can receive vulnerability information.
