What is OneIT?

OneIT is a cohesive, collaborative organization that thrives through the power of our diverse technical community. Comprising of the central IT organization, Information Technology Services, and distributed IT organizations in the colleges and administrative units, OneIT will redefine service excellence for our UofL community. Through our unified approach, we will ensure every customer interaction benefits from the full spectrum of our technical abilities and together, drive mutual growth of our technology solutions.

OneIT will be a single organizational structure, centered around a shared platform portfolio, shared mission portfolio and shared service portfolio. By breaking down internal silos and harnessing the collective expertise of our UofL tech teams, we will create consistent, responsive support across all university touchpoints and deliver solutions that empower students, faculty and staff.

A transformative change effort initiated by the OneIT strategic plan, OneIT will emphasize service excellence and equitable access to IT resources and be guided by the OneIT committee. Expected benefits of consolidation include:

  • Enhanced cybersecurity and secure, consolidated storage options
  • Improved service delivery with focused endpoint support
  • Optimization of costs and administrative systems
  • Greater IT staff advancement opportunities through enhanced career pathways and learning resources

How will OneIT be realized?

The initiation of the goals and objectives of the OneIT strategic plan remain a constant top-level focus as we move forward. Building upon our expansive resources begins with conducting intensive assessments of all university IT resources, including hardware, software, systems and personnel. At this level, the importance of engagement and responsiveness by all involved is foundational – completing surveys, collecting pertinent information, gathering data and providing feedback. Effective future management of systems, services, inventory and assets depends on accuracy during the assessment period.

Detailed planning will be multi-faceted in approach but focus on increasing effectiveness and collaboration. Restructuring and expanding the organization will include increased administrative responsibilities, adjusting reporting lines (direct and unit-connected), redeveloping governance models, expansion of the OneIT council and the formation of an executive governance group. A new budget model and an inclusive service platform are a significant component in our planning process.

Implementation will come in stages as each step in the planning process is achieved. A strong cross-communication team and partnership model, with measurable metrics and a shared service-driven vision, will then define OneIT and make it a reality.
